It has a metal stainless steel casing and needs a 220v power supply. It is a beast that can handle tough food scraps like chicken bones and potato peels. It is also interchangeable with other Insinkerator products and is easy to install. Customers are pleased with their purchase of the Pro 1100XL and recommend it as a great product.
