Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings Format: Audio CD Rap & Hip-Hop WA-16549975 Editorial Review
**** Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings' album "Naturally Kushed" is a vibrant testament to the enduring power of funk and soul music. The album presents an impeccable blend of Sharon Jones's commanding voice, which exudes both soul and sass, and the Dap Kings’ exceptional musicianship. Fans have noted that while this release offers a more ballad-oriented experience compared to their previous album, "Dap Dippin'," it retains an alluring groove that makes it a must-have for any aficionado of the genre. Tracks like "How Long Do I Have To Wait For You?" stand out for their catchiness, edging into addictive territory. The band’s take on classics, such as their reimagining of Woody Guthrie’s "This Land Is Your Land," showcases their creativity and ability to breathe new life into familiar tunes. Not to be overlooked is the poignant track "Your Thing Is A Drag," where the band's strong instrumental backing complements Jones's emotional delivery. Listeners have expressed a deep appreciation for the authenticity of their sound, which diverges from contemporary R&B's formulaic production. This authenticity is complemented by a full-bodied horn section, a solid rhythm base, and an undeniable sense of chemistry among the band members that brings each track to life. It's clear that this album transcends typical genre boundaries and appeals to a remarkably diverse audience, igniting joy in dance and communal singing regardless of age or background. In summary, "Naturally Kushed" solidifies Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings as esteemed figures in the modern soul and funk landscape, carving a niche that resonates with those who appreciate the rich tapestry of music influenced by the era from the '50s through the '70s. **
