Tsukushi Makino est une jeune lycéenne de 16 ans, issue d'un milieu modeste, qui est parvenue à rentrer dans l'un des établissements les plus cotés du pays. Très vite, elle se heurte à une bande de voyous friqués, les F4. Ces derniers font régner la terreur dans le lycée, en attribuant des cartons rouges aux élèves qui ont le malheur de ne pas leur plaire. La pauvre Tsukushi se retrouve persécutée moralement par les quatre garçons. Mais plutôt que de s'aplatir comme les autres et d'attendre que la vague passe, elle décide de leur tenir tête, d'abandonner l'image de la fille sans histoires qu'elle entretenait pour son entrée au lycée pour redevenir la Tsukushi du collège, celle qui ne se laisse pas faire. C'est la guerre ! Si Marmalade Boyétait un shôjo manga davantage destiné aux petites filles, en revanche, Hana Yori Dango est un récit beaucoup plus mûr, mettant en scène des personnages à la fois attachants, naïfs, et calculateurs ! Au Japon, il fait partie de la liste des 10 mangas les plus marquants pour les Japonais, toutes tranches d'âge confondues ! En République Populaire de Chine, le gouvernement a interdit la diffusion du dessin animé (mettant en scène une jeunesse rebelle) avant même son arrivée sur les chaînes chinoises, ce dernier ayant sans doute été jugé trop subversif ! Quoi qu'il en soit, si vous pensiez que les héroïnes de manga étaient toutes des nymphettes pleurnichardes attendant leur prince charmant en se tournant les pouces, vous risquez d'avoir une surprise en lisant celui-ci !
