IRWIN Smoothing Planes 09-1/2 Editorial Review

**** The Record 09-12 Block Plane has garnered a mixed reception among users, highlighting crucial aspects of performance and craftsmanship. Many customers praise the tool's reliable Construction and good heft, suggesting it holds up well during use. However, the need for blade maintenance, including sharpening and honing, has been a common theme in feedback. Users generally recognized that a proper working plane requires initial adjustments, including blade sharpening, but some expressed disappointment with alignment issues and uneven blade positioning, which seem to stem from manufacturing inConsistencies. Several reviews emphasize that while the plane has good potential, users are encountering challenges with adjustment mechanisms and blade quality, leading to frustration for those expecting a no-fuss experience. Additionally, aspects such as the frog assembly and overall engineering received commendation, indicating that the tool has strong points despite some flaws in quality control. While the Record 09-12 Block Plane may appeal to dedicated woodworkers willing to invest time in modifications, those looking for a plug-and-play option might find it lacking. Nonetheless, it has its place in the toolbox of someone prepared to hone their skills—and their blade. **
